Monaco’s ePrix goes green

For the first time, the ePrix will take place in Monaco . SMEG (the gas and electricity supplier in Monaco ) wanted to commit itself to the ACM through a supply of green electricity during the event. In this way, the ePrix will be the first formula electric Grand Prix fully green, with electricity produced from renewable energy sources.

As SMEG and ACM have been working together in favour of sustainable development and electric mobility for many years, this partnership seems like a foregone conclusion.

Since 2007 and thanks to the “egeo” offer, it is possible for everyone in Monaco to buy green electricity without changing its own installation.

In very simple terms, SMEG purchases electricity which was produced in France by hydraulic power plants, and reallocates it to its customers in Monaco . The customers have the choice to buy green electricity and therefore support the production chain. Every year, they get a certificate which testifies the origin of their electricity.

In 2015, just over 25% of electricity purchased in Monaco will be from renewable sources. This result greatly exceeds one of the objectives set by the Climate Energy Plan of the principality in 2020.
