Automobile Club of Monaco’s Environmental Policy

“For three decades now, the IPCC has been warning us about the disastrous, often irreversible effects of climate change (…) Beyond our speeches and words, it is high time to move towards action. This is nothing more or less than taking the last opportunity we have to build a future for humanity. (…) These urgent and crucial efforts must be carried out in concerted way with policies that seek to drastically reduce greenhouse gas emissions and reverse the trend of biodiversity loss by 2030. (…) Monaco remains resolutely committed to protect the environment and also to sustainable development.”
H.S.H Prince Albert II of Monaco – 77th Session of the UN General Assembly – September 22nd, 2022 – New York

Faced with the climate emergency, the Automobile Club de Monaco (ACM) has for many years been fully committed to an environmental approach in line with the ambitions of the Monaco Government. Aware and concerned about its impacts, while being resolutely ambitious and innovative in the face of tomorrow’s challenges, the ACM has a role to play in building a more sustainable and socially responsible motor sport.

ACM’s environmental policy applies to all motor races organised by the association (Formula 1 Grand Prix de Monaco, Grand Prix de Monaco Historique, Monaco E-Prix, Rallye Automobile Monte Carlo, Rallye Monte-Carlo Historique, E-Rallye Monte-Carlo et Concours d’Elégance) and to all its related perimeters (Race Direction, Service Park & Paddock, Media Centre, Head Office, etc). The ACM’s objective is to act on various levels: as an organiser of more sustainable races, as an organizer of eco-responsible events, as a committed player in the Monegasque and French territories, and as an association concerned about the impact of its daily activities.

Thus, ACM’s commitment to reducing its environmental impact is part of a continuous improvement process. The mobilization of its entire ecosystem is required. To this end, ACM’s environmental policy is shared with all our employees and is attached to the rules and regulations of the various events organized. Our teams and participants are invited to adopt an eco-responsible approach to reduce our overall environmental footprint.

Our environmental policy is based on the following principles of action:

  • COMPLY: Respect current regulations and anticipate future changes in environmental legislation,
  • MEASURE & MONITOR: Implement an environmental management system to measure the impacts of ACM’s activities on various themes (waste, CO2 & energy emissions, travel, water), collect the associated data and identify areas for improvement in the coming years,
  • IMPLEMENT: Implement concrete actions & support ACM members and partners in implementing avoidance, reduction and/or compensation measures to achieve the objectives set for each of the identified impact areas,
  • COLLABORATE: To be identified as a locally committed player and to develop partnerships with local environmental associations,
  • TRAIN: Raise awareness and involve each of the participating actors (FIA, promoters (FOM, FEH, WRC), drivers, teams, volunteers, media, mayors of the stage cities, suppliers, etc.) in the environmental actions carried out by the ACM and encourage behavioural changes,
  • COMMUNICATE: Communicate transparently about ACM’s commitments and environmental performance.

A new version of ACM’s environmental policy will be published in 2023. More generally, a transversal and integrated CSR strategy, to be published in the 3rd quarter of 2023, will enable ACM to position itself more precisely on its various environmental commitments through an operational roadmap. We have entrusted an “Environmental Steering Committee” with the task of proposing objectives for reducing our ecological footprint.
