{"id":10592184,"date":"2023-05-28T11:57:30","date_gmt":"2023-05-28T09:57:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/acm.mc\/formule-2-vesti-resiste-a-pourchaire\/"},"modified":"2023-05-28T19:17:37","modified_gmt":"2023-05-28T17:17:37","slug":"formula-2-vesti-holds-off-pourchaire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/acm.mc\/en\/formula-2-vesti-holds-off-pourchaire\/","title":{"rendered":"Formula 2: Vesti holds off Pourchaire"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\"><b>Starting from pole position, Denmark&#8217;s Frederik Vesti (Prema Racing) led from start to finish on Sunday morning in the Formula 2 Feature Race of the 80th Formula 1 Grand Prix de Monaco, ahead of France&#8217;s Th\u00e9o Pourchaire (ART GP), winner of this race in 2021.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\"><strong>Vesti<\/strong> got off to a good start and wasn&#8217;t troubled by <strong>Victor Martins<\/strong> and <strong>Th\u00e9o Pourchaire<\/strong> at the first corner, Sainte-D\u00e9vote. He continued to set a very good pace until the first major incident of the race, when <strong>Jack Doohan<\/strong> (Invicta Virtuosi), son of the former MotoGP world champion, lost control as he reached the Place du Casino.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-10592181 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/acm.mc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/DSC_5269-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" srcset=\"https:\/\/acm.mc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/DSC_5269-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/acm.mc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/DSC_5269-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/acm.mc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/DSC_5269-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/acm.mc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/DSC_5269-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/acm.mc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/DSC_5269-2048x1365.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">His single-seater, which had already hit the rail at the Bureau de Tabac, went sideways at the top of the Casino climb and came to a halt on the rope, in a very dangerous position. It even started to catch fire, but within seconds marshals were on hand to extinguish the blaze with carbon dioxide foam.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">When <strong>Martins<\/strong> arrived on the spot a few seconds later, he narrowly avoided the Australian&#8217;s single-seater. But he didn&#8217;t slow down enough under the yellow flags and was penalized a little later, dropping from 2nd to 8th place. The red flag was waved and everyone quietly returned to the pits to wait for the track to be cleared.<br \/>\nThe race was restarted for a dozen laps, as the 60-minute time limit was about to be reached due to this interruption. In the end, the race lasted only 39 laps instead of 42, and <strong>Vesti<\/strong> made no mistakes until the end, to claim his 2nd win this season, after the Feature Race in Jeddah in March, and become the new leader of the championship.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Behind <strong>Vesti<\/strong> and <strong>Pourchaire<\/strong>, 3rd place on the podium was taken by <strong>Zane Maloney<\/strong> (Rodin Carlin), another highly talented 19-year-old from Barbados (British West Indies), ahead of Dutchman <strong>Richard Verschoor<\/strong> (Van Amersfoort).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Another Frenchman, <strong>Isack Hadjar<\/strong> (HiTech), was forced to retire from the lead on Saturday due to an engine problem. He finished 12th in this main race, well ahead of <strong>Cl\u00e9ment Novalak<\/strong> (Trident) in 17th place.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Finally, the only Monegasque entered, <strong>Arthur Leclerc<\/strong> (DAMS), who started from the back of the grid, was forced to retire a third of the way through the race, when his brakes failed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">In the championship, <strong>Pourchaire<\/strong> limited damage and now stands 2nd in the standings, close to new leader <strong>Vesti<\/strong> and ahead of <strong>Ayumu Iwasa<\/strong>, the winner of Saturday&#8217;s Sprint Race.
