That was the age at which <strong>Kimi Antonelli (Mercedes)<\/strong> became, on Sunday 1 November, the youngest world champion in Formula 1 history, following his third-place finish in Mexico City. The Italian driver made his mark on the 2026 season with a number of prestigious victories, including a magnificent win in Monaco. This feat was first achieved by Juan Manuel Fangio in 1957. Michael Schumacher remains the only driver to have achieved it three times (1994, 1995 and 2001), ahead of Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton, Ayrton Senna, Alain Prost and Jackie Stewart, who have each achieved it twice.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>A brilliant 2026 season<\/h3>\n<p>At the wheel of an impressive Mercedes W17 this season, the Bologna-born driver has impressed with his composure and maturity. Finishing second in the season-opening Grand Prix in Australia, he went on to win the next five races with a combination of luck, at times, but above all with great skill. The highlight of this run of five victories was his magnificent win in the Principality following a perfect weekend capped by a Grand Slam (pole position, victory, fastest lap in the race, leading every lap).<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>It\u2019s one of those laps you\u2019d call magical<\/em>,\u201d he had said in the wake of his remarkable pole position at the Monaco Circuit. The following day, despite a chaotic race behind him, the young Italian remained focused: \u201c<em>It was an incredible weekend and race! It was one of those days when we had incredible pace and everything just fell into place. The car was in top form and really gave me confidence, so it was a very enjoyable day<\/em>,\u201d he said at the finish of the Formula 1 Louis Vuitton Grand Prix de Monaco 2026.<\/p>\n<p>After retiring due to mechanical problems in Barcelona, finishing third in Austria and twelfth at Silverstone, he returned to winning ways in Belgium, Italy and Madrid.
