Ferrari celebrates a very special anniversary in 2021: just 70 years ago, the Scuderia won its first Grand Prix in the Formula 1 World Championship, thanks to Argentinian Froilán Gonzalez, at the British GP 1951, on the Silverstone track.
In order to celebrate in style, two former Ferrari works drivers, Jean Alesi (201 GPs, 2 pole positions, 1 win in Canada) and René Arnoux (149 GPs, 18 pole positions, 7 wins) have been invited to drive a couple of 312 B3s that raced in 1974, in the hands of F1 legend Niki Lauda. They are entered by the Mathusalem Team). Arnoux, the greatest rival of Gilles Villeneuve, nicknamed « The Acrobat” by Arnoux himself, who battled with him in Dijon (1979), in one of the greatest duels of F1 history and became his friend forever. At the Monaco GP in 1982, after Gilles’s brutal death in Belgium, Ferrari only entered one car and Arnoux started in pole position, although the turbo engine of his Renault was not the best solution to tackle the narrow streets of the Principality.
A very special tribute to the Canadian acrobat. Arnoux is still a passionate man, after all these years, and did not hesitate a second when he was asked to drive a 312 B3 and enjoy its formidable V12 engine, along with Alesi. The Ferrari show will be a great moment, since the two French guys are not exactly here to relax…
