A jury was needed to decide between the 47 wonder cars. And this Elégance et Automobile à Monte-Carlo jury is made of exceptional personalities. They had the onerous task to name a winner in the 9 different categories. Christian Philippsen, director of Elégance et Automobile à Monte-Carlo and supervisor of the jury says : « We needed people with grate automobile knowledge and who were able to judge the elegance of a car, like it was done in the 30’s or 50’s ». This year the jury is chaired by Sandra Button, the president of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. The American is surrounded with Lorena Baricalla (Monégasque ballerina, singer, actress and passionate of automobile), Lorenzo Ramaciotti (former Group Chief of Design for Pininfarina and former Group Chief of Design for FCA) and Thierry Boutsen (former Formula 1 driver).
The mission of the jury is more complicated than it seems. Géry Mestre, president of the Historic Cars Commission of the Automobile Club de Monaco insists : « We need to judge the exceptional car body and its design. But we also need to take in consideration the history of the car. » The jury meet with the owners of the cars yesterday and today in the morning to learn a few stories and details about the work arts. Christian Philippsen explains : « When I speak to the collectors, I always ask them : ‘If the car could speak, what would it tell us ?’. The meet with them is a decisive moment of the concours. » The Elegance concours is split in 3 stages : the meet with the owners, the Elegance parade, during which it’s important to see the car moving and to listen to the engine music. And last but not least, the deliberation. During this phase of the concours, the members of the jury have to discuss their points of view. The results of the Elégance et Automobile à Monte-Carlo will be pronounced tomorrow morning at 11am on la place du Palais Princier.
After the Elégance Parade on the place du Casino de Monte-Carlo, the 47 cars joined the place du Palais Princier for the Prize Giving Ceremony. The jury designated a winner in each of the 9 categories and awarded a Jury special prize. The competitors were congratulated by H.S.H. The Princess Charlène and were later welcomed at the Prince’s Palace. Elégance et Automobile à Monte-Carlo ended on this glamorous touch.

On Friday the participants of the Elégance et Automobile à Monte-Carlo took part in a ride on the winding roads of the countryside and appreciated an astonishing view on the Mediterranean Sea.
At the end of a section of 19 kilometers, the collectors enjoyed a picnic at the Domaine du Mont-Leuze. Early this afternoon the cars made their way back to the Principality and the Terrasses du Soleil, where they are staying for the weekend.
Between tonight and tomorrow the jury made of personalities will meet with the owners of the cars in the Terrasses du Soleil, prior the Elégance parade that will take place on Saturday at 5pm on the place du Casino de Monte-Carlo.
Elégance et Automobile in Monte-Carlo is the brand new event of the 2019 summer !
It used to be part of « Rallye Monte Carlo de Voitures Anciennes », but today it is a real time travel experience.
It is a rendez-vous for cars collectors and fans, with the most beautiful cars of the world.
The climax of the weekend will take place on Saturday in front of the prestigious Hotel de Paris : the Elegance Parade begins at 5pm in front of a jury made of personalities…
Starting in pole position after Larry ten Voorde’s 2 grid place penalty, Michael Ammermüler secured the win in the Porsche race. The German pilot had a quiet race even with the Safety Car intervention 5 laps before the end of the race. The BWT Lechner Racing driver finished ahead Mikkel O. Pedersen and Larry ten Voorde. This is his first win of the season after his third position in Barcelona two weeks ago.
Formula Renault drivers offered a quiet race for their last appearance on the Monégasque track. At the end of the 30 minutes and one lap Alekansder Smolyar is the winner. Second at the end of yesterday’s race, the Russian man was able to keep his starting position. Victor Martins and Joao Vieira are the two other drivers on the podium.
