Although Dan Ticktum (Cupra Kiro) started from pole position, like this Saturday, the race proved that beginning at the front was no guarantee of success. Chaos erupted on the opening lap following contact at the Nouvelle Chicane between Edoardo Mortara (Mahindra Racing), running third at the time, and António Félix da Costa (Jaguar TCS Racing), who was second. Mortara received a 10-second penalty for the incident, while da Costa dropped back to 15th position.
As the laps went by, several drivers took turns at the front: Nico Müller (Porsche Formula E Team), who produced a superb opening stint by climbing from 11th on the grid to the virtual lead, Mitch Evans (Jaguar TCS Racing), Edoardo Mortara (Mahindra Racing), and even António Félix da Costa, who led on lap 19 after an impressive comeback from his early-race incident.
This intense battle at the front kept the field tightly packed throughout the 28 laps. Overtakes came one after another, battles raged across the circuit, and the tension kept rising as the chequered flag approached.
After an intense fight, Oliver Rowland moved into the lead on lap 23 with a superb overtake on Edoardo Mortara at the exit of the tunnel. The Nissan driver then managed the gaps to his rivals to secure a second victory in the Principality. He also claimed a fourth Formula E podium in Monaco, his third in two years.

“It was not the race I expected to be honest,” admitted Oliver Rowland after the finish. “I had to be disciplined in terms of the energy there was a lot of people attacking from very early on…actually a bit safer to be where I was,” analysed the reigning world champion.
For now, however, the title fight is not at the forefront of Rowland’s mind. “I just need a little bit more pace if I’m honest and qualifying just missing a little bit of feeling and a bit of confidence.” And yet, thanks to his first victory of the season, the Nissan driver climbs to second in the championship standings, 19 points behind Mitch Evans.
