Competitors and special correspondents!

At the arrival of this 5th Monte-Carlo E-Rally, Virginie Decorte from Radio VINCI Autoroutes (107.7) and Denis Carreaux Editorial Director of Nice-Matin, gave us their impressions after this 2021 edition. For Virginie: “This partnership with the ACM for the E-Rallye Monte-Carlo is in line with the wish of the Radio to promote green and eco-responsible mobility. The best way to demonstrate the versatility of electric vehicles was therefore to enter the competition ourselves, which we did in 2018. In order to share our impressions with our listeners, three daily programmes are scheduled on our airwaves, including one live that I do from the car.” For the first edition, Virginie, who was already teaming up with Denis Carreaux, met him and discovered the subtleties of navigation. “At the time, it was recommended that I calculate our averages using the cross-multiplication! Obviously the end result was not the most glorious, but we got caught up in the game.”

One fastest time and multiple Top 10 finishes
For their third participation, the progress is dazzling. “Today we have equipment that is both efficient and intuitive, and that we discovered on the day of start. In two stages, the timemaster was tamed! With Denis, the automatisms are in place and above all we are no longer stressed at all.” For his part, Denis believes that “the automobile has always had a special place in Nice-Matin”. The Daily’s Editorial Director adds: “It was therefore logical that we were partners in an event that combines motorsport and environmental respect. It was also essential for me to bring the adventure to our readers by participating in it myself.” As skilled behind the wheel as he is with a pen, Denis is the driver while “Virginie concentrates on the course”. “I just have to turn the wheel and listen to her!” Obviously attentive to his teammate’s ratings, the results speak for themselves: a fastest time and several Top 10 finishes! Performances that give them ambitions for the future… To be continued!

Father Christmas drives an (electric) Porsche!

The E-Rallye Monte-Carlo is also a great way for communication. The Sport et Plus association, headed by Eric Friedrich and of which Margot Lafitte is the patron, has thus entered a Porsche Taycan for the event.
The goal: to improve the daily lives of children hospitalised in paediatric wards. Four hospitals will be visited on the route: Annonay, Valence, Manosque and Grasse. Computer equipment, books and toys will be distributed there to ease the children’s hospital stay. To date, more than 20,000 children have benefited from the actions of the association! Eric and his co-driver Pierre-Henri Goulden, who are both beginners, nevertheless take the event to heart and appreciate this moment by combining business with pleasure.
Heading South

Heading South

Heading South! It was at dawn, at 6am, that all the crews left the Champ de Mars in Valence to join the Principality of Monaco. A first road section to reach Saint-Nazaire-le-Désert gave the competitors a taste of the magnificent landscapes of Drôme. To reach Montauban-sur-l’Ouvèze, it was the Baronnies, famous for the cultivation of olive trees, that were observed by the crews.

In just a few kilometers, the landscapes, luminosity and autumn heat were already more Provençal… until reaching the most famous canyon in Europe, with its rock-side roads and dizzying summits. Le Verdon, with its 10,000 corners, leads in the most beautiful way towards the much desired Côte d’Azur. Beyond the sporting context, the E-Rallye Monte-Carlo is the surest way to be wowed!

Sports summary of the day

Four Regularity Stages were scheduled and like yesterday, four different crews stood out!

In the RS8, it is the young couple Fesquet who place their Tesla at the top of the hierarchy. In the next one, Chef Chabran, along with Eric Mallen, repeats his performance of yesterday and adds a star to his record. The RS10 sees Zdarsky/Nabelek win on their Skoda. For the final Stage of the day, the Ozon/Seiler duo, whose driver is the winner of the last edition, show that they are still in the fight.

An extremely difficult day, due to its density and the demanding terrain of the special stages, but so beautiful that fatigue will quickly be forgotten!

Tomorrow, detour in the Var department for stages in the heart of the massif des Maures, then return to Monaco via the Alpes-Maritimes between sea and mountains.

In case of emergency, call 18!

Philippe Segura and Xavier Baux, respectively Firefighter and Prince’s Rifleman carry the colours of the Monegasque Public Services!

Complete beginners, their initial objective was to reach Monaco, but the two men who discovered the intricacies of the discipline at the start of the rally yesterday… have already won their first victory in the second Regularity Stage of the morning.

They are burning with enthusiasm! Particularly impressed by the quality of the other crews and the rigour of the organisation of the ACM, Philippe and Xavier regained their competitive spirit and revised their objectives upwards.

Thursday: Sports summary of the day

This Thursday evening marks the end of leg 3. This morning the 3 Regularity Stages were won by 3 different brands!

The Monegasque crew, Jacques Pastor/Serge Pastor, on Kia E-Niro won the RS4. In the RS5, Monaco still shone with the representatives of the Public Services (on BMW I3) Philippe Segura/Xavier Baux. In the RS6, it was the inflexible Didier Malga/Anne-Valérie Bonnel duo that gave Porsche (Taycan) their first electric success. Leg 4, with the only Regularity Stage (number 7), saw Serge Garosi/Michel Périn coming back with their Renault Zoé.

Overall, on the provisional podium we find tonight, only separated by 20 small points, Frederic Lansiaux/Nicolas Buhot on VW ID4, J.Guillaume Jamin/Stephane Loraux on Skoda Enyaq and Frédéric Ozon/Gérald Seiler (winner in 2019) on Tesla Model3. Nothing is decided yet, especially as tomorrow promises to be… eventful!

A visionary Mayor! Bernard Laget the mayor of Châteauneuf believes in green energy and he proves it. With electricity coming from its very original wind trees and photovoltaic panels, it is in the production of green hydrogen that the former professor of the ÉNISE, the National Engineering School of Saint-Étienne has embarked on. Completely self-sufficient in energy, the Château du Mollard demonstrates the relevance of his ideas, which many municipalities are observing with interest.
