The rally leader suffered a puncture to his front left wheel just a few kilometres from the finish line. He is now 27.2 seconds behind Elfyn Evans in SS5. ⚠️
The Belgian driver is 30 seconds behind Elfyn Evans, who is virtually in the lead. “I was a bit careful in there and it is so easy to go off. I just need to keep it neat.“
And we’re off! McErlean and Treacy are away on SS5 between Saint-Nazaire-le-Désert and La Motte-Chalancon. 28.70km of timed stages are on the schedule.
Léo Rossel / Guillaume Mercoiret (Citroën Rally2), second in SS4 in WRC2, took the lead in their category.
The longest special stage on Friday, covering a distance of 28.70 km, will start at 10:32 a.m. It promises to be spectacular, with the climb up to the Col des Roustans and the fast descent to the finish line.
The fourth special stage was won by Oliver Solberg / Elliott Edmondson, who were already in great form this morning! The Toyota duo finished ahead of Thierry Neuville / Martijn Wydaeghe (Hyundai) and Elfyn Evans / Scott Martin (Toyota).

The Hyundai driver sets the provisional fastest time on SS4 (14:07.6): “The feeling is slightly better. We still need to find the trust in the tyres that is the biggest issue.“
Three crews retired following Thursday’s events:
The M-Sport Ford duo Joshua McErlean / Eoin Treacy will lead the way in today’s first special stage, SS4, between Laborel and Chauvac-Laux-Montaux (17.95 km). 🟢

Welcome to Live Coverage of the Rallye Monte-Carlo 2026! 👋 On the agenda for Friday are six special stages totalling 128.88 km against the clock. Joshua McErlean / Eoin Treacy, who crashed yesterday, will be the first to start SS4.
Due to a number of spectators moving into unsafe positions at the edge of the stage between the passing of cars, and as a result of reduced visibility caused by heavy fog on Special Stage 3, the Clerk of the Course issued a red flag
👉 Thank you all for following the instructions and staying within the authorised areas.
The crew of the No. 99 Toyota finished this crazy first day at the top of the overall standings. See you tomorrow for the rest of the Rallye Monte-Carlo 2026!

While waiting for the official overall classification to be announced at the end of the evening, some crews have (temporarily) retired in SS1 and SS2:
Seven Rally1 cars made it across the finish line, but the fog was too thick to continue.
Keeping up a good pace, the Frenchman was finally caught out just a few metres from the finish line of the special stage. “There was quite a lot of fog now in the stage, and it was difficult to see. I went in the ditch without knowing where I was.“
In the foggy descent towards Claret, Sébastien Ogier managed a time of 10’04″7. “There’s evenings like this where you are extremely happy that it’s over.“
It’s time for Sébastien Ogier and Vincent Landais, currently fifth in the overall standings.
The shortest special stage of the day, covering a distance of 15.06 km, will start at 8:35 p.m. There will be no room for error in this fast-paced special stage before reaching the service park in Gap.
The second special stage was won by Oliver Solberg / Elliott Edmondson, more than 30 seconds ahead of Elfyn Evans / Scott Martin and the surprising Jon Armstrong / Shane Byrne.

The Finn and the Irishman are stopped at two different points on the special stage. Both crews are OK.
A splendid performance by the Swedish driver, who set the fastest time of 16’47″3: “My god, that is the craziest I have done in my life.” The Toyota driver also took the lead in the rally.
Elfyn Evans completes a superb special stage in 17’18″4. “If you told me I was two minutes slower I would have believed you. It is so much worse obviously now it is freezing. It is so difficult“
Sébastien Ogier finished this extreme special stage with a time of 17’56″5 : “I have never seen like that in my whole life. Unbelievable.“
Sébastien Ogier and Vincent Landais are opening the road once again for SS2, between Esclangon and Seyne-les-Alpes (23.80km), in what promises to be an unpredictable stage.
Who will be fastest on SS2 between Esclangon and Seyne-les-Alpes?
The longest special stage on Thursday, covering a distance of 23.80 km, will start at 6:35 p.m. Snow, which is expected on certain sections, could create the first major gaps in this Rallye Monte Carlo. ❄️
The opening stage of the Rallye Monte-Carlo 2026 is won by Elfyn Evans / Scott Martin, ahead of Oliver Solberg / Elliott Edmondson and Sébastien Ogier / Vincent Landais.

The Swedish driver sets a 16’11″3, more than 5 seconds behind Evans.
Thierry Neuville finishes with a time of 16:49.2 : “I was struggling a lot. Zero confidence. I cannot trust the grip. I just follow my feeling. We need to work to find more confidence.”
“I was trying to be as smooth as possible and it was not easy with a cross tyre. It is only the beginning don’t get too excited yet.”
Sébastien Ogier sets a time of 16’17″7. “It’s difficult in these conditions to know the limit. I was on the safe side.”
And we’re off! Sébastien Ogier and Vincent Landais are away on SS1 between Toudon and Saint-Antonin. 21.90km of timed stages are on the schedule. 🟢
